The park is known for sightings of elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and rich birdlife, especially around the Mkata Floodplain, often called a “mini-Serengeti.” Its proximity to Dar es Salaam makes it a popular choice for short or weekend safaris. Game drives provide good wildlife viewing year-round, with the dry season offering the highest concentration of animals.
Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania is famous for the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and one of the best wildlife-viewing locations in Africa. Safaris into the crater offer sightings of the Big Five, including one of the highest concentrations of black rhinos. The enclosed, fertile landscape supports abundant wildlife such as lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, and flamingos around Lake Magadi.
